September 2015 Meeting

Our first meeting of the 2014-15 guild year was busy and filled with information, inspiration and wonderful quilts.  It was very nice to see all of the returning members as well as some new members.  President Micki welcomed everyone to the meeting and explained to new members how the guild is organized.  She introduced the guild executive.  Lorna (Program Chairperson) and Edith (Community Outreach Chairperson) talked about their areas of responsibility and what they had planned for the upcoming year.  Charlene (Quilt Show Chairperson) gave us an update on our upcoming Quilt Show.

An important part of the meeting was the Presentation of a Lifetime Membership to June K.  Barb A. introduced June to the guild members.  June joined the LFQG in1982.  She served as President of the Guild for 3 consecutive years.  June shared her love of quilting by teaching many workshops at the guild including Celtic Interlace and 3D Flowers.  She also helped novice quilters learn new skills.  June is the winner of many quilting awards including awards at the Western Fair and the International Plowing Match.  The award that June is most proud of is the “Best Use of Fabric” in the Trend Tex Challenge at the 1994 CQA show in Halifax.  Her quilt is hanging in the Corporate Offices of Trend Tex in Coquitlam, BC.

Thank you June, for your years of service to the guild and your generosity in sharing your knowledge and skills with other quilters.

During break time the sign-up tables for Workshops, the Row of the Month Mystery Quilt and Volunteers were very busy.  Also on display were the quilts turned in by members for Community Outreach, the projects made by members who went on the CQA Bus Trip and the donations of small projects for the Sale Table at the Quilt show.  We also enjoyed snacks and juice or tea, provided by the Program Committee.

After break, we were introduced to Susan Clark, who is a member of the Oxford Quilters Guild.  Her topic was “What Kind of Creative are You?”.  Her talk was informative, funny and filled with wonderful quilts.  I’m sure that her Workshop in November is going to be great!

The following is a message from Lorna (Program Chairperson):

There are still openings in Susan Bowslaugh’s “Crosses Quilt” workshop on Friday, October 10. This would be a perfect scrappy project and can be done in any size you wish. It provides a great opportunity to learn the technique of improv piecing using fabric you already have in your stash. If interested please contact Charlene at char8892@hotmail.com by September 24.
