Our speaker for this month will be Cheryl Gardiner, from Gardiner’s Gate Barn Quilts. She will be doing a slide show presentation on her designs for the quilt blocks that are found hanging on the outside of barns. We’ve all noted these in our travels around the province. Now we’ll see how they are produced.
Our workshop this month is by Kellie Richardson, from Joyce’s Sewing Centre. She will be doing a class on machine quilting on your domestic machine. The date is Saturday, March 11th.
March 25th is scheduled for a sewing day devoted to our outreach programs. The committee will be there with kits to be made for Quilts of Valour and for Children’s Aid. There will also be some work done on slab blocks for the CQA’s project of doing 1000 quilts for Ronald McDonald houses. If you have fabrics that you would like to bring for these, by all means bring them along.
Please remember that our meeting and workshop for the month of April are going to be in the first week, rather then the second, due to the dates of Easter. Our speaker and workshop teacher for April is Andrea Manias. The topic is “Stupendous Stitches”.
For the March meeting, please bring with you:
-completed slab blocks. The blocks turned in at the last meeting made up 2 of the large sized quilts.
-comfort quilt Friendship Star blocks, continuing in the black/white with a bright colour in the centre square. We have received enough of these to do up 2 quilts, with a few left over to go into a third. SO this month’s blocks should make enough for that third quilt.
-notion of the month- a piece of green fabric suitable for sewing into a slab block. This could be a strip of fabric, or a square or rectangle, no smaller than 2 inches please.
