It’s been 3 years since Brenda Miller visited our guild. That was her first trunk show ever! She has come along way since then and she had suitcases of quilts and tote bags to show us.
She recounted her journey of quiltmaker to pattern designer and distributor. Sharing with us the many lessons she learned on the way.
She talked about how hard it was and is to anticipate your customers needs and wants, experimenting with complicated patterns vs. easy and quick patterns, block of the month patterns, tote bags, and pillows. Below the Northwinds pattern is available as a block of the month pattern.
Here is a neat idea of a casserole warmer and tote that doubles as a table runner! One of the guild members had made this as a shower gift, that was very well received by the bride-to-be!
Many thanks to Linda Bartlett from Quilts and Calicos for having Brenda’s patterns available at the meeting!
Brenda came back on Saturday for the Out and About Bag workshop. Look at these amazing bags! Great job Ladies!
The LFQGuild would like to thank Brenda Miller for her wonderful trunkshow and workshop!
Guild Business:
Kids Quilts
Each month members hand in finished quilts that are donated to the local Children’s Aid Society. Different types of kits are available at each meeting, from piecing to binding to quilting, you don’t have to make a whole quilt yourself….Just see Penny for details.
Row Robin:
At next month’s meeting we will finalize the sign up for a Row Robin activity starting with the January meeting. Some members are unfamiliar with a row robin or a round robin. Four members showed their Round Robin results. These 4 ladies started with a centre square, passed it on, added 2 borders and passed it on, etc. creating a medallion quilt. Our activity will start with a row of blocks, pass it on, add a row and pass it on, etc creating a row quilt…It will be a lot of fun!
Lily’s Memorial Quilt
Karen showed us the progress so far on Lily’s Memorial Quilt. Lily Wright a founding member of LFQG passed away from cancer in April of 2008. It was decided that a quilt would be made in honour of Lily and submitted to The Quilt project in Stratford. Diane Carson a relative of Lily will machine quilt it.
Don’t forget to have your placemats finished for the December meeting. A spokesperson for Meals on Wheels will be on hand to receive our donation of placemats.
