Blog Sampler Anvil

This week’s block is the Anvil.

Cutting Instructions.

Light fabric:       cut  4 @ 2 x 2 inches square
                           cut  4 @ 2 3/8 x 2 3/8 inches square
Medium fabric:  cut   1 @ 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches square
Dark fabric:        cut  4 @ 2 3/8 x 2 3/8 inches square

Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each of the light 2 3/8 inch squares. Pair these, right sides together, with the dark 2 3/8 inch squares. Sew a 1/4 inch seam on either side of the drawn line. Cut apart on the drawn line and press towards the dark fabric.

Referring to the photo below, make 4 pairs of triangle squares, in two sets. Note the direction of the light and dark sides of the triangles in the two different sets.

Referring to the photo below, sew a set of the triangle squares to the top and bottom of the medium   3 1/2 inch square.

Take the other set of triangle squares and sew a 2 x 2 inch square on either end, as shown below.

Sew these to the sides of the 3 1/2 inch square.

Go here for the finishing instructions. The large triangles on the outside of this one are the lights.
