Mary Elizabeth Kinch will be our speaker on Thursday night and lead a workshop on Friday April 12. Don’t forget to bring your chatelaine and name tag and the notion this month is packets of seeds for community gardens.
Here is the supply list for the workshop on Friday:
• Basic Sewing Kit (fabric scissors, thimble, thread to match your fabrics)
• Sewing machine (in good working order)
• String quilts are scrap quilts!
o The quilt in the book used 3 2/3 yards total of assorted fabrics. (*How narrow can a string be? Some of the finished strips started out at 5/8” and finished a scant 1/8”. Larger than 1 3/4” may look too bulky, but it is personal choice). If you don’t have strings on hand, bring fat quarters of 15- 20 different fabrics. o In a one day class you will not get to the point where you will be using the background fabric. For the sashing, border and binding, the quilt in the book took 6 yards. You don’t have to bring that to class, but if you have something you want to audition, bring it along!
• Rotary cutter, cutting board and ruler (18” is a good length)
• Stiletto (my favourite is the Clover Straight Awl (item #485W)
• ¼ foot for your machine that does not have a metal guide on the side
• Straight pins may be helpful, but are not essential
• Notebook and pen
• Book “Small Pieces, Spectacular Quilts”
